In the 1960's a powerful youth revolt started a revolution. These were the years of the hippies. The hippie movement was born in the city of San Fransisco, A free Haven for Youth looking to "Freak Freely." The music, the drugs, the clothes and the love was fueling an aspiration to rebel in the youth of the 1960's. This counter culture was formed by a unified belief in love, music, the right to speak up and stopping the war in Vietnam. The music: The Beatles, Janis Joplin, The Who, Jimmy Hendrix, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Santana and more changed the way music was played forever. This counter culture came together and planned a revolutionary three day concert they called Woodstock.
Woodstock is now remembered and looked back on as a unique world changing experience of three days of peace, love and music.
John F. Kennedy was elected his first term in 1961, He was a young democrat, he was also our first Catholic President. Kennedy was a big supporter of civil rights which was in it's prime i the sixties. Martin Luther king, Was gaining support form now a mixed crowd of African Americans and whites of all ages. The push to end racial discrimination against African Americans was now felt in every state across our nation. Smaller civil rights activist groups grew stronger and gained momentum. Groups like the SNCC Student Nonviolent Coordinating Comity raised funds and planned protests to speak out to the southern half of our country. The Sncc and many other groups like it played major rolls in the March on Washington.
J.F.K was a new face in politics, He wiped out nixon in the election, With his charming and young look during the telivised debates. Kennedy was looking to improve civil and womens rights.
